Group Counseling 

Participants in group therapy benefit from the mutual support and learning that occurs from interaction with others who have shared experiences. We offer a variety of therapeutic and educational groups on a regular basis and start new groups when needs arise.

Support Groups

Women’s Support Group (40+)

This monthly group is geared toward women 40 years and older and meant to provide support and encouragement from others going through similar experiences.

  • Empty nesting: How to redefine your role after the children leave.
  • Life over 40, 50 and beyond: Expect the unexpected.
  • Coping with the needs of aging parents.
  • Intimacy and sexuality

Day/Time: 1st Monday of every month, 7:00 – 9:00pm
Size Limit: 8 Participants

Women’s Support Group (30s and 40s)

This monthly group is geared toward women 30 to 40 years of age.

Women’s Support Group (22 – 30)

Support group for young adult women looking to connect with others who are going through similar experiences.

  • Life transitions and new roles
  • Societal/familial pressures
  • Relationships
  • Self-identity

Size Limit: 8 Participants
: Every other Wednesday (beginning 10/5), 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Men’s Support Group

Make positive changes in your life in a safe and confidential environment where you can discuss personal struggles.
Some of the topics we will cover are:

• Life after separation/divorce
• Redefining roles
• Relationships with children/step-children
• Career changes

Day/Time: Every other Tuesday; 6:00-7:00pm.
Size Limit: 8 Participants

Managing Life With Bipolar

This weekly group is for men and women with a diagnoses of Bipolar Disorder who are currently under the care of a psychiatrist and would benefit from further psychoeducation and support from others.

  • Impact of bipolar disorder
  • Coping with symptoms
  • Managing relationships

Grief and Loss Support Group

A weekly group open to adults who are grieving a loss.  Group meets once a week on Friday afternoons.

New Parents Support Group

A weekly support group for parents with children infant to 1 year old. Discussion topics include:

  • Navigating the transition to parenthood
  • Celebrating the new you
  • Self-care
  • Effective communication of needs
  • Coping with emotions and postpartum depression.

Parenting Support Group

Feel like you’re all alone in this and out of resources? Need some time for yourself to help untangle all of the negative interactions that continue to occur? Or just looking to hear what others have tried with success? Come join a group of parents like yourself who are also going through similar experiences. Topics will include:

  • Managing your emotional response
  • Understanding your child’s reality
  • Addressing Conflict
  • Helping your child navigate difficult relationships
  • Keeping your child safe
  • Addressing bullying
  • Building self-esteem
  • Reinforcing positive behavior
  • How to be the best parent you can be

Transitioning to Independence

This is a support group for adolescents who are transitioning to young adulthood.Eligibility Criteria (i.e. age): Adolescents leaving high school and transitioning to college or the workforce. Topics covered include:

  • Managing new responsibilities
  • Moving away from home
  • Changing social supports
  • and more

Female Survivors of Trauma

This support group is for adult (18+) female survivors of trauma. The group will assist participants in restoring healthy emotional regulation through discussion of basic principles of somatic experiencing and enhancing awareness of bodily sensations. This is a closed group, with each participant making an 8 week commitment to the group.
Size Limit: 6 Participants

Social Skills for Young Adults

This support group is for young adults (18 – 30) who struggle with navigating social situations and connecting with others. This closed group meets weekly with an 8 session commitment.

Psychoeducational Groups

ASAP – Fairfax County Alcohol Safety Action Program

We are an approved treatment provider for outpatient substance abuse treatment services for clients (18yo+) referred by the Fairfax Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP).  This is a 16 week group program. English-speaking and Spanish-speaking ASAP groups are ongoing weekly.

“Inside Out” – Emotional Awareness for Children

This group will help children (6-12 years) increase emotional awareness and learn about healthy emotional expression.
This is a closed  group, held weekly for 6 weeks.
Size Limit: 8 Participants

Mindfulness for Teens

This group is targeted toward teens, ages 13 -18 years old.  Participants will learn and practice mindfulness and stress management techniques.

  • Decrease stress and anxiety
  • Increase purposefulness
  • Increase control over emotions and behaviors

Wellness Classes

In addition to traditional therapy groups, we offer small group and one-on-one yoga, Pilates and mindfulness classes, as well as workshops on parenting skills and couples communication. Check back frequently for our most current offerings, or sign up for our e-newsletter to stay in touch.
